Komune is an established apparel store on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. We were invited to transform a narrow, 5-by-24-foot former storage room into an elevated retail environment for art and sculptural objects.

The space is defined by salvaged stainless steel panels, which we resurfaced by hand to create a softly reflective “mist” finish, paired with walnut framing and shelving. Custom fringe pendant lights, inspired by Hans-Agne Jakobsson, introduce softness and are echoed beneath the shelving to tie the space together.

We led the project from concept through design development and construction, and designed, fabricated, and installed the custom shelving and lighting.
